About the region
The colourful Roussillon area offers its natural, cultural and historical treasures and above all a geographic situation in between ski and sea resorts. 5 of our villages are listed as the most beautiful villages of France and several famous painters (Matisse, Derain...) have been charmed by the magnificent bay of Collioure. The preserved natural sites reinforce our environmental culture where gastronomy and wines naturally find their place.
The area has a mixture of mountains, beaches and lakes, with picturesque towns and villages waiting to be discovered in the surrounding hills. With its diverse landscape and coastal position the region offers a full range of outdoor pursuits for the more active, including skiing, windsurfing, walking, mountain biking and sailing. Still relatively undiscovered, the area represents exceptional value for money in comparison to more established parts of south eastern France, but still shares that all important Mediterranean climate and culture and boasts clear skies and more than 300 days of sunshine a year.
Perpignan itself, with its easily accessible location and Mediterranean climate, has experienced a growing demand for property in this vibrant and rapidly changing city. The old city centre is a very desirable part of town, with easy access to shops, bars, restaurants and cafés. This area is very attractive and full of character with cobbled streets lined with interesting shops and boutiques. The last remaining part of the old city walls and the symbol of Perpignan, is being largely pedestrianised.
Prices are growing fast in anticipation of the new TGV train which is currently being built. This is offering many property buyers an excellent mid to long term investment. The TGV line (opening in 2009) will link Perpignan to Barcelona in just 50 minutes, making the Catalan capital commutable. As a result there is significant demand from Spanish buyers which is reflecting an increase in property prices throughout the region.
